Three students receive 4-H scholarship

SPRAGUE—Three students from Lincoln and Adams counties have been awarded $750 scholarships for their achievements in 4-H by the Lincoln-Adams 4-H Leadership Councils.

Malea Canaday, who is graduating from Sprague-Lamont High School this year, is a six-year member of the Sprague-Lamont 4-H club and has completed projects in sheep production, leadership, horseless horse, food and nutrition and riflery. She has served as a club officer, mentored younger members and assisted in Crafty Cooks meetings.

Canaday plans to attend Eastern Washington University and major in accounting and business.

Colton Messer, who is graduating from Odessa High School, has been with the Odessa Junior Livestock 4-H Club for eight years and focused his efforts on market swine and leadership. He’s been club secretary/treasurer and vice president and was named reserve Grand Champion of Swing Showman at the Lincoln County Fair.

Messer plans to attend Perry Tech Institute in Yakima to study instrumentation and industrial automation technology.

Logan Hollenbeck, who is graduating from Othello High School, has been part of the Bits N Spurs 4-H club for nine years with a focus on sheep and horse projects. He’s been club president, vice president and treasurer and received several honors including Grand and Reserve Champion Sheep Showman and Grand Champion Market Lamb.

Hollenbeck is attending Washington State University and majoring in agriculture business/economics and animal science/management.

The scholarship is awarded annually. Any high school juniors and seniors that are Lincoln-Adams 4-H members can apply.
