DAVENPORT-The Gorillas continued their winning ways in their third game of the season against the Kettle Falls Bulldogs, taking care of a team that made the state tournament last season but lost many key players. Davenport won soundly 63-34 after taking a 23-8 lead in the first quarter and holding a halftime lead of 38-13.
Tennesee Rainwater had his best game of the season to date, scoring 26 points and converting 11-of-15 shots from two-point range. He continued to struggle from three, missing all five of his long-distance attempts, but he covered that ground with paint efficiency.
"I got my teammates involved first, and then after that, I was able to get buckets," Rainwater said.
He was joined by another solid offensive effort from Brenick Soliday, who contributed 14 points and hit four of his seven three-point attempts. Ethan Douse added 10 points for the Gorillas. Wyatt Telecky grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Davenport's swarming defense forced 19 turnovers and held Kettle Falls to 29.4% shooting. The Bulldogs offense was hindered with poor outside shooting, less than optimal shot selection and a lack of ball movement. Kettle Falls missed all 16 of its three-point attempts and had just four assists as a team.
"We work hard and push each other to have the best defense we can," Rainwater said.
Kettle Falls built some momentum in the second half and kept pace with the Gorillas, who won the half just 25-21. But Davenport's dominant first half ensured the outcome was never in doubt.
