Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
CHEWELAH-The Davenport Lady Gorillas (4-0) never faced much of a challenge from the Chewelah (Jenkins) Cougars in their quest to remain undefeated this season. Davenport dusted off Chewelah handily on the road 61-14.
The game was never in doubt, as the Lady Gorillas led 21-2 after one quarter and were up 32-6 at halftime. Davenport hasn't given up more than nine points in one quarter since the opening game of the season against Northwest Christian.
Contributions were balanced, as all players scored, played at least 13 minutes and took at least two shots. Lena Waters scored a game high 16 points off the bench, outscoring Chewelah by herself. Kylee Buchanan and Darby Soliday had nine points apiece, and Ellie Telford scored eight points and snared seven rebounds. Soliday added six assists for the even Lady Gorilla attack.
Davenport's dominant defense forced 18 turnovers and held the Cougars to a putrid 13.9% from the field. The Cougars were 4-for-22 from two-point land and 1-for-14 from three. Davenport, meanwhile, shot 54% from the field on offense, despite not making a three-pointer. The Lady Gorillas recorded nine steals and blocked three shots while outrebounding Chewelah 37-21.
Davenport's 47-point margin of victory was its largest so far this season and the fewest points the Lady Gorillas have allowed. Davenport hasn't allowed a team to score more than 19 points in three games.
The Lady Gorillas will put their dominant 1-2-2 zone defense to the test against the Colfax Bulldogs, who come to town at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.
