SPANGLE—The Reardan wrestlers took the mat against other competitors for the first time this season at Liberty Wednesday, May 19.
The Indians have 16 wrestlers this year, which coach Rick Perleberg said is down from usual years. He attributed that to COVID-19 rules, which mandate twice-weekly coronavirus testing and mask-wearing during competition and practice. 14 of the 16 competed at Liberty.
Senior Kobe Martinez competed in the 220-pound weight class and won his only match. Fellow senior Mahkai Anderson, a 170-pounder, went 1-1.
Junior Cody Routh, a 138-pounder, won both his matches, while fellow junior Dylan Djornberg, a 145-pounder, went 1-2. 138-pound Jacob Reinhart, also a junior, dropped both his matches.
Sophomore Tristan Zagorski competed in the 138-pound class and won both his matches. Sophomore Tristian Burrill, a 285-pounder, similarly won his only match.
Reardan is laden with freshmen this year. 152-pounder Conner Kline was 3-0, while twins Noah and Liam Hamilton both went 1-1. Noah is in the 113-pound class and Liam is in the 160-pound class. 160-pounder Aiden Chilson was 1-1, while 195-pounders Ayden Chun and Carson Durbin were 0-2 and 0-1, respectively.
The Indians were rounded out by eighth-grader J.C. Merriott, who weighed in at 106 pounds and won both his matches.
Reardan will host its lone home meet of the season up next on Thursday, May 27 beginning at 5 p.m.
