Robert "Bob" Lloyd Olson
1934 - 2021
Robert "Bob" Lloyd Olson (86) passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Spokane in 1934, he was one of 3 sons. He attended Lindberg School District south of Spokane and graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Violet Williams in 1954. Bob enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served for 4 years.
Bob and Violet had four sons. Bob lived a full and active life and dedicated his life to public service. Once Bob & Violet relocated to Davenport, Bob worked at the Davenport Times and later retired as Postmaster. Bob worked for the U. S. Post Office for 40 years. Bob belonged to many organizations, member of the VFW 7480, Lions Club and the Optimist Club. Bob was one of Davenport's original "Whistling Midgets". Bob coached little league, youth basketball and junior bowling. He also could be seen at all of the Davenport School District sports activities by running the time clock and score board. Bob also served as a board member of the Davenport School District. Bob was instrumental in starting Davenport's first fantasy football league. Bob's team was fondly known as the "Stamp Lickers". Bob was an avid bowler and even had a perfect 300 game. Bob and Violet were on bowling leagues and traveled to many state and national bowing tournaments. Bob enjoyed card games, board games, puzzles and throwing dice at family events.
Bob was an avid golfer. He passed that passion onto some of his grandchildren, especially his Granddaughter, Kayla. Bob never missed a practice, a golf match or a tournament. Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bob was also a wonderful cook. He was famous for his chili. He won many chili cook-offs at his apartment complex.
After retiring from the post office, Bob moved to Spokane and went to work for the state liquor store. He later moved to the Tri-Cities to be closer to family, warmer weather and year-round golfing opportunities. He even continued to work for the liquor store in the Tri-Cities.
Throughout the trials of his illness, he cherished every moment, surpassing the doctors' predictions for life on this earth. His grit and love for family kept him going through the death of his only true love, Violet.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ellen, brother James, his eldest son Christopher, granddaughter Wilena Olson-Harmon, and daughter in law, Betty Olson.
Bob is survived by his brother, Jerry, sons and daughter in laws, Greg & Shelly, Steven & CC, Russ & Joan Olson. Bob has 9 grandchildren, Christopher, Terra, Kayla, Skyler, Paxton, Issac, Madison, Kaityln and numerous great-grandchildren.
Bob was laid to rest on May 20, 2021, at a private burial at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Wash.
