Most county fire districts have enacted bans
DAVENPORT--The city has banned fireworks for Independence Day weekend as heat records here begin to fall, conditions remain dry and fire danger remains high.
"After much discussion and speaking with all stakeholders, The city of Davenport has decided to not allow fireworks in city limits this year due to the extreme heat and dry conditions," mayor Brad Sweet wrote on Facebook. "We want everyone to be safe this season and have a Happy 4th."
A burn ban has been implemented in Fire Districts 3-9. All bans include fireworks, with the current exception of Fire District No. 6. The district's commissioners will be meeting tonight to discuss adding fireworks to the current ban, however.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Board of Commissioners and Reardan Police Department has said they won’t enforce burn bans with criminal punishments because an ordinance won’t be legally passed in time to allow for firework enforcement. However, they have urged county citizens to adhere to the rules set forth by the fire districts.
Fire District No. 1 in the Sprague area has yet to return phone calls to indicate about their burn situation.
Fireworks have also been banned by the Spokane Tribe. That extends to the Two Rivers Resort fireworks show on Lake Roosevelt, which has been cancelled this year due to high temperatures and dry conditions.
