Mayoral, city council seats up for grabs
RITZVILLE - One incumbent candidate is leading and another trailing in two separate races for city leadership positions in the Aug. 3 primary election.
In the race for mayor, incumbent Linda Kadlec had a commanding lead over challengers Glen R. Stockwell and Dennis R. Chamberlain.
Kadlec had 234 votes, or 57.35%, at the end of the initial tally Tuesday night. Chamberlain was second with 97 votes, or 23.77% and Stockwell third with 72 votes, or 17.65%.
In the city council race, incumbent Mark Weigand isn't fairing as well, although he still remains in the Top 2.
Only the Top 2 in each primary race advance to the Nov. 2 general election.
In the council race, challenger Marsha Reimers Smith leads with 141 votes or 36.43%. Weigand is second with 113 votes, or 29.2%
Two other challengers lag behind.
Charles Jingling is third with 19.9%, or 77 votes, and Dan Peters if fourth with 13.95%, or 54 votes.
At the end of the first day of counting, election turnout in Adams County was only 20.27%.
The county has tallied a total of 1,531 ballots, so far, officials said. There are 7,552 registered voters in Adams County.
Late-arriving ballots will be tallied throughout the election certification window.
