Activities fill Homecoming Week

ODESSA – Homecoming activities at Odessa High School last week were fun for students and staff alike. Each day during the week was a dress-up day for all who chose to participate. With an overall theme of "outer space," each day focused on a different aspect of that theme: astronauts, planets, Star Trek/Star Wars and aliens. The final day was simply black-and-orange day, as the school prepared for Friday night's football game.

On Wednesday evening of last week, the high school grades each decorated a farm truck donated for the occasion and rode it to the football field to participate in various games of skill. The competition was fierce.

At Thursday's volleyball game against ACH, the girls competed while the boys kept the cheering section hopping. They even held a contest for the best dance routine by representatives of each class. Nearly all of the senior boys participated in performing a dance routine during a timeout.

Juniors Collin Martin and Gage Starkel perform a hilarious routine with a big blue ball. Dressed as Zombie werewolves, sophomores Austin Read, Chad Strebeck and Dakota Steward danced to Michael Jackson's song, Thriller, and freshmen Levi Hardung, Holden Iverson, Sean Widger and Corbyn Neilsen played air guitar.

At halftime of the Friday night football game, the royal court for Homecoming was introduced. Homecoming King and Queen were seniors Daeton Deife and Emily Scrupps. Daeton is the son of Dalles and Suzie Deife and Emily is the daughter of Jason and Danielle Scrupps. Representing the junior class were Joshua Valverde and Maria Garcia. His parents are Don and Heather Valverde and she is an exchange student hosted by Lyndsay Reyes. Sophomores Chad Strebeck and Melloney Deife were also part of the royal court. Chad is the son of Don Strebeck and April Strebeck, and Melloney is the daughter of Dalles and Suzie Deife. Freshmen Holden Iverson and Reegan Carstensen completed the group. Holden is the son of Brenik and Kamie Iverson, and Reegan is the daughter of H.P. and Coreen Carstensen.
