Aug. 14, 1929 - May 25, 2021
Roland Vincent (Jim) Winfrey of Quincy passed away on May 25, 2021. He was born to John and Hester Winfrey on Aug. 14, 1929 in Nantahala, NC.
Jim was stationed at Fairchild AFB in 1951 when he met Jackie Grening at a USO dance. They married in Odessa in 1953 at the Christ Lutheran Church and raised a family of 5 boys.
Jim and Jackie moved to the Quincy area in 1982. Jim worked for the Bureau of Reclamation Water District, raised a few cows, and became well known in the area for the very large garden area he and Jackie worked on tirelessly. In addition to everything imaginable in the garden, he had peach, plum, cherry, and apple trees as well as many different nut trees. He became adept at grafting different varieties of apple trees to create his own type. His grandchildren loved walking through the garden picking various fruits and vegetables.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Jackie), his son (Russ), and his granddaughter (Bobbie Jo). Jim is survived by sons Kirk, Mark (Colleen), Jay (Carol), Dale (Tamara), 13 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
