Broncos rout Reardan in homecoming win

Reardan finishes season with two home games

RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos put their unbeaten record on the line Friday night, Oct. 15, handing Reardan its fifth loss, 49-7, at Jimmie Snider field.

LRS head coach Greg Whitmore was pleased with the outcome.

"We figured we were the better team, but at this point in the season we just take it one game at a time," he said.

Just 1:18 into the game, Brody Boness scored the first Broncos touchdown on a 25 yard run. Then, at the 7:13 mark of the first quarter, Brock Kinch scored on a 14-yard pass from Chase Galbreath. And with 24 seconds to go in the first quarter, Kinch added another touchdown on a 1-yard run.

Lind-Ritzville led 21-0 at the end of the quarter, setting the tone for most of the game.

Midway through the second quarter, Reardan showed some life when Cody Sprecher scored on a -yard dive. Minutes later Reardan was back on offense, but the drive ended when Boness intercepted a Reardan pass.

The Broncos took over with 4:37 to go in the half.

A minute later Hunter Dinkins caught a 13-yard pass from Galbreath and Lind-Ritzville was on top, 28-7, with 3:30 to go in the half. On the ensuing Reardan possession, Dinkins intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for the fifth Broncos touchdown of the evening.

And they weren't done.

With just 25 seconds to go in the first half, Boness closed out the first-half scoring on a 2-yard run to take a 42-7 lead at halftime.

Things didn't get any better for Reardan in the third quarter.

Reardan was held scoreless, and with 4:51 to go in the third, Seth Miller scored for the Broncos on a 2-yard run. With 54 seconds to go in the quarter Travis Redburn came up with another interception for the Broncos to send the game to the final period.

"We circle this game on the calendar," Whitmore said. "We had a good week of practice despite some of the (Homecoming) distraction."

The fourth quarter played out quickly when officials conducted the rest of the game with a running game clock.

Whitmore substituted starters with backup and younger players in the second half, including a pair of freshmen – Zach Klein at quarterback and John Stromberger at running back.

"We saw some good physicality," Whitmore said of his younger players. "They made some mistakes, but it's a learning opportunity."

The kicking game was very efficient, with Galbreath converting on all 7 points-after- touchdowns.

The game played out in less than two hours on a cool evening, where Homecoming royalty from Sprague, Washtucna and Lind-Ritzville high schools were crowned.

Reardan next faces Colfax at home Friday, Oct. 22 before concluding the regular season with a visit from the rival Davenport Gorillas Friday, Oct. 29. Kickoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
