Football team overwhelms Republic, Tiger vs Tiger

REPUBLIC –Last Friday night’s catfight in Republic pitted the Odessa Tigers against the Republic Tigers with the Tigers coming out on top. Uh, that would be the Odessa Tigers. They carried the day despite racking up 11 penalties for 120 lost yards.

Quarterback Collin Martin completed nine of 11 passing attempts for a total of 287 yards. Five ball carriers pulled in those nine completed passes, Daeton Deife with five for a total of 164 yards and one touchdown, Anthony Elder for a 21-yard gain, Chad Strebeck for 59 yards and a TD, Davey McMillan for 30 yards and a TD and Corbyn Neilsen for 13 yards and a TD.

McMillan led the ground attack with 189 yards rushing, plus the 30 receiving and 26 more yards in kickoff returns for a total of 245 overall yards. He was also the point leader with 34 by reaching the end zone five times and adding two successful two-point conversions.

Freshman Tucker Walter picked up two points on a safety.

Martin also had a great night on defense, leading the team with 11 tackles and getting an interception.

On Oct. 29, Odessa travels to Cusick for an away game starting at 7 p.m.
