Reardan now prepares for district playoffs
REARDAN-The No. 1 ranked Colfax Bulldogs spoiled Reardan's Senior Night with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-11) victory Tuesday, Oct. 26. Reardan fell to 4-6 in league play with the loss, but maintained its spot in the district playoffs next week.
Colfax came out swinging, scoring the first six points of the first set and going on to win 25-9.
Reardan battled much harder in the second set, taking a 7-6 lead. The home team held tough as Colfax went on a 6-1 road to take a 15-11 second set lead. Davenport nearly matched Colfax point for point as the set went on, but the Bulldogs held on for a 25-20 set victory.
The Bulldogs then scored seven straight points to start the third set. Reardan put in a predominantly senior lineup after the crowd's urging, which energized the team to score four straight points before Colfax finished the job with a 25-11 set victory.
The loss concluded Reardan's regular season and was precluded by a three-set victory at St. George's Thursday, Oct. 21. Junior Coalie Whitman had 15 assists, six aces and six kills, while junior Emma Flaa had 12 assists and nine kills for the visitors.
Reardan will finish in the top-eight in the NE2B and participate in the district playoffs, which is a double-elimination tournament beginning Tuesday, Nov. 2. The team will be seeded anywhere from No. 6 to No. 8, which means Reardan is ensured to start on the road, but the opponent is undecided as the rest of the league concludes its regular season this week.
If Reardan finishes eighth, it'll have a rematch at Colfax. Finishing sixth or seventh opens the possibility of a bevy of opponents, including Asotin, Upper Columbia Academy, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and Liberty.
The top three finishers at districts qualify for the state playoffs.
