Booster club raises $50,000

ODESSA – The Odessa Booster Club auction held last Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Odessa Community Center was successful in raising over $50,000 for Tiger athletics, say booster club member Suzie Deife and club treasurer Danielle Hardung.

The venue was decorated in a black and white Tiger theme, even the dessert bar, where community members outdid themselves baking and purchasing sports-themed desserts for attendees to enjoy, was Tiger- and sport-themed. New this year, entire tables could bid on desserts, raising $2,150 for a new game-ready machine for the athletes, Deife said.

Odessa businesses and community members generously donated items for the live and silent auctions. The live auction items included a Blackstone Grill donated by Ritzville Warehouse, 100 acres worth of Rogator chemical application donated by the Odessa Grange, a guided duck hunt donated by King Hay Farm, a load of gravel donated by Bill and Carol Bell, half a cut-and-wrapped beef donated by the McMillan family, an "O" flag with flagpole donated by Odessa Trading Company and a Kolbalt toolbox full of Craftsman tools donated by RJ Exploration and Drilling.

The most popular packages included a one-week Key West getaway donated by Stacey and Dorcey Hunt and Traig and Carmen Weishaar, an outdoor brick oven pizza party donated by Matt and Heather Messer and Seed Rite, Inc. Other successful getaway packages included a Peshastin getaway donated by McGuire, Dewulf, Kragt & Johnson; a Walla Walla weekend getaway donated by Odessa Drug; a Gamble Sands Golf Getaway donated by Bruce and Kim Todd and Dave and Janie Steward; a Coeur d'Alene Resort weekend getaway donated by Leffel, Otis & Warwick; an Eric Church Concert package donated by Todd and Terri King and a Tubbs Hill Zipline Adventure donated by Highline Grain Growers. With over 24 items, the live auction brought in well over half of the profit for the night.

The silent and live-on-the-side auctions offered great items as well. Due to the generosity of the community, attendees were able to bid on over 123 items in the silent auction, including Tiger apparel, baked goods, gift baskets, home decor and gift cards. In the live-on-the-side auction, the booster club also raised funds for the Almira Elementary/Middle School building recently destroyed by fire. "Raise the Paddle for Scholarships," which took place in the middle of the live auction, raised a record-breaking $8,600 for the 2021-2022 Tiger athletes.

The club sold a total of 99 tickets at $40 per ticket, which included dinner with a prime rib main coarse prepared by Melcher Custom Meats and sides of twice-baked potatoes, Caesar salad and rolls prepared by a kitchen crew headed by Lindsy Starkel.

"The booster club is extremely happy with the auction's outcome, which produced nearly double the profit of the 2019 event. The community's support and generosity helped us get back on pace after having to cancel the 2020 auction because of COVID," say Deife and Hardung.
