DAVENPORT—U.S. News recently ranked all 442 middle schools in the state, and the middle school here ranked favorably. Davenport was named the best small middle school and third best middle school overall in Eastern Washington, while placing 42nd statewide.
The ranking system gave Davenport a score of 90.7 out of 100, noting the district’s 16:1 student/teacher ratio, 62% rate in math proficiency and 77% rate in reading proficiency, ranking 74th and 74th statewide in those categories respectively.
Schools were ranked based on state testing performance, graduation rates and success in preparing students for high school.
The only two middle schools in Eastern Washington ranked higher than Davenport were North Central (No. 13) and Sacajawea (No. 26) middle schools, both of Spokane.
Reardan Middle School ranked No. 258 of 442 statewide, while Harrington didn’t have a rank. Odessa, Wilbur and Creston were also unranked.
Other comparable schools include Medical Lake Middle School, which ranked No. 188, and Cheney Middle School, which ranked No. 282. Lamont Middle School ranked No. 332, while Lind-Ritzville Middle School ranked No. 144.
