Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT-Lincoln County Care and Share is moving locations after 36 years in its present building two blocks behind Safeway on 13th Street. Now, the nonprofit that provides clothing and furniture to those in need has outgrown the space and is moving to a recently purchased location on Morgan Street across from Molecule Cannabis between Second and Third Streets.
But before the move can take place, Care and Share has further financial needs to take care of.
"This purchase has depleted all of our funds and we are in need of financial help in order to purchase the needed food shelving, clothing racks, toilet, sink (and) heater and prepare our parking space," Care and Share president Cindy Warner said.
Care and Share is stocked full at its volunteer-run location on 13th Street, forcing the nonprofit to rent a storage unit for overflowing goods.
"Food storage has overflowed into our storage shed and freezer trailer," Warner said. "Our sorting area is so small that only one volunteer can sort at (a) time."
Warner added that semi-trucks dropping off food can't make deliveries behind the building due to limited space.
If donations come through, Warner hopes Care and Share can move to its new location by Christmas to avoid a snow-filled moving process. Donations can be made at the current building or at Wheatland Bank.
Thanksgiving food donations also needed
Financial donations aren't the only need facing the food bank and thrift store that has over 400 clients. Thanksgiving is a week away, and Care and Share hasn't received any donations of turkey, stuffing or other holiday essentials.
"We would take turkeys, stuffing and really any holiday food," Warner said.
She said Care and Share will be open through Wednesday, Nov. 25 to take in any Thanksgiving donations for those unable to afford a traditional holiday dinner.
