Spokane judge to hear case

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Annette S. Plese will preside over a case filed in Lincoln County Superior Court against the Lincoln County Auditor’s Office by the Washington Election Integrity Coalition and Jerry Schulz of Reardan, according to a Nov. 9 court filing.

The lawsuit alleges a lack of election integrity by the auditor’s office during the 2020 general election season. Lincoln County Superior Court judge Jeff S. Barkdull recused himself from presiding over the case earlier in November.

Plese has judged in Spokane County courts since 2002. She was elected a Superior Court judge in 2009.

Dr. Monteagudo resigns

The county has lost its public health officer and doctor providing jail health services. Dr. Ralph Monteagudo has resigned and is moving to the East Coast, Lincoln County Health Department public health administrator Ed Dzedzy informed the county commissioners this week.

Monteagudo has worked with the county since 2014 and also provides emergency medicine services at Lincoln Hospital and all three North Basin Medical Clinics.

The county will look to fill Monteagudo’s shoes in a position that requires a master’s degree in public health. It’s a job requirement with candidates in short supply, Dzedzy said.

Monteagudo is reportedly moving to the East Coast to be closer to family.
