Train derailment closes Highway 28

DAVENPORT--Highway 28 is closed in both directions at milepost 130 near Fitness Lane due a train derailment. According to sources in the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, several grain cars derailed behind the elevators near Fourth Street.

Drivers can detour on Third and Fitness Streets. Third Street was originally blocked by derailed cars, but crews were able to clear that to create a detour.

No estimated time of re-opening has been given, and no injuries have been reported. The Department of Transportation reported that it will be an extended closure, however. The train engine is on the opposite side of Highway 28 and is unable to move the remaining train cars. LCSO is the only active responding unit at this time.
