Five Gorillas make all-league First Team in football

DAVENPORT—The Gorilla football team’s successful 9-2 season was reflected in the NE2B all-league teams announced this week. Five Davenport players are on the first team, with four players being recognized on both sides of the ball.

Two more Gorillas are on the second team, as are two Reardan players.

Davenport rode its running game and dominant line all season, and that was reflected in first team selections for seniors Willie Waters and Cody Jenkins and junior Wyatt Telecky on the offensive line.

Senior running back Marcus Delafield, who rushed for over 1,000 yards this year, is also on the first team, as is junior fullback Sam Schneider.

Waters and Telecky are also first team on the defensive line, and Schneider is first team as a linebacker. Jenkins is second team for defensive line. Senior Tate Foster and junior Evan Gunning were named second team as linebackers, meaning all three starting Davenport linebackers are recognized.

Reardan is represented by senior lineman Justin Murinko, who is second team on both the offensive and defensive lines. Senior Cody Sprecher is second team as a defensive back.

Jason Baldwin of Reardan was named middle school Coach of the Year.

Davenport’s five players on the first team is only topped by league champion Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, which has seven players on the first team.

The first team offensive line is Waters, Jenkins, Telecky and Colby Tracy and Hayden Tracy of LRS. The second team offensive line is Murinko, Blake Esser of LRS, Zack Patrick of Northwest Christian (Colbert) and Brandon Finau and Aaron Roberts of Liberty (Spangle).

LRS’s Chase Galbreath is first team quarterback, while Liberty’s Logan Wilson is second team.

Delafield is joined by LRS’s Brock Kinch, Chewelah’s Kruz Katzer and Colfax’s Mason Gilchrist on first team for running backs. Liberty’s Jake Jeske and LRS’s Brody Boness are second team.

Liberty’s Wyatt Sego and NWC’s Aidan Tibbetts are first team receivers, while Liberty’s Josh Stern and LRS’s Hunter Dinkins are second team.

LRS’s Hayden Melcher and NWC’s Ryan Waters are second team flex, behind Schneider’s first team selection.

Waters, Telecky, LRS’s Hayden Stone and NWC’s Jonny Lester are first team defensive line. The second team is Murinko, Jenkins, Finau, Roberts and Tracy.

Schneider, Tinkins and Jeske are first team linebackers. Foster, Gunning, Gilchrist, Boness and Liberty’s Ashton Strobel are second team.

Galbreath, Stern and LRS’s Nick Labes are first team defensive back. Sprecher, Melcher and Colfax’s Ryan Henning are second team.

Colfax’s Garrett Dingman is first team defensive flex. LRS’s Brock Kinch is second team.

Finau is first team for kicker, while Asotin’s Isaiah Berzett is first team for punter. Boness is first team returner.

LRS’s Greg Whitmore was named Coach of the Year, while late Kettle Falls assistant coach Fernando Montgomery was named Assistant of the Year posthumously.
