Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
REARDAN—The local varsity girls basketball team gave new head coach Bob Swannack a convincing victory over visiting Newport Tuesday. Reardan knocked off the visiting Grizzlies 56-25 in the team’s season-opener and first game under Swannack Nov. 30.
Seniors led a balanced scoring attack for Reardan, which had 10 players enter the scoring column. Madalyn Dewey led the scoring with 13 points, while Ayden Krupke added nine points and disrupted Newport defensively with seven steals. Hinna Frolov also scored nine points for the Reardan offense.
Reardan’s defense was on lockdown mode for the first three quarters. The home team led 17-3 after one quarter, 30-4 at halftime and 44-7 after three quarters. Newport managed to find some offense in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points to finish with 25 total.
The win over 1A Newport was a good start to the season for a Reardan team coming off a .500 season last school year. Reardan will look to continue the momentum with another nonleague home contest against Tekoa-Rosalia Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
