Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
ODESSA – Odessa High School's FBLA chapter is working to bring the spirit of Christmas to Odessa by completing nine operations that spread kindness and joy throughout the community. Lowe's gave all winners of its 100 Hometowns Project $2,000 in gift cards to be used to purchase items for Christmas gifts from Lowe's. The company suggested community volunteers, working parents trying to make ends meet and/or community organizations that help others as the recipients of the gifts.
FBLA members sought advice from a variety of people in the know about who could benefit from Lowe's generosity and came up with Operation December to Remember.
In addition to these gifts, FBLA members have planned three additional Christmas operations. The operations include:
1. Operation Dasher: Toy drive to collect new and used toys to redistribute to Odessa children
2. Operation Dancer: Purchase 8x10-foot area rugs to cover plywood floors in two children's bedrooms
3. Operation Prancer: Replace broken windows with new vinyl windows in children's bedrooms
4. Operation Vixen: Purchase towels for hard-working single mom
5. Operation Comet: Host Christmas party for Odessa senior citizens on 12/15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Old Town Hall
6. Operation Cupid: Purchase dishwasher for a family that gives generously to Odessa
7. Operation Donner: Purchase and build a pantry for a single hard-working parent
8. Operation Blitzen: Purchase supplies to build a ramp for an Odessa senior citizen
9. Operation Rudolph: Light up the Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center with Christmas lights for the residents.
Members of the community who would like to join Operation December to Remember may donate new or gently used unwrapped toys, which can be dropped off at Odessa Schools, Washington Federal Bank, or area churches. FBLA members also need outdoor lights/decorations for the hospital that are no longer wanted by their owners.
