Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT-The Gorillas' varsity girls team has mostly seen success this year on the defensive side of the floor, but Davenport has struggled to turn its stops into points. That reared its head Friday, Dec. 17 as Davenport fell to the visiting Northwest Christian Crusaders 39-32 in another low scoring, sloppy affair.
The loss dropped Davenport to 2-5 this season.
The first quarter was particularly sloppy, as both teams struggled with turnovers. NWC led just 6-4 after the period.
Davenport junior Kiersten Kemmerer hit three-straight threes to end the first half to give Davenport an 18-14 lead. That lead shrunk to 25-24 after three quarters.
NWC then went on a short run to take a 34-31 lead with 1:34. Davenport could only manage one more point to take the loss.
The Gorillas were led by Kemmerer, who hit four three-pointers and scored a game-high 13 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Improving eighth-grader Clare Lathrop scored eight points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Davenport.
Azalea Viletstra led NWC with 11 points as the Crusaders improved to 2-5.
Davenport again struggled to take care of the ball, committing 21 turnovers and forcing 11. The Gorillas shot 25% from the field. NWC wasn't much better at 28%.
Davenport will look to get back on track at the West Valley Christmas Tournament Wednesday, Dec. 28 with games against Rogers and Lakeside scheduled.
