Tiger girls start season with wins

ODESSA – The Tigers upped their season win streak to four by defeating both Davenport and Harrington on Dec. 14 and 16. Ashlyn Neilsen was again the leading scorer in both contests and was named Odessa Player of the Game for both.

Neilsen scored 26 points in the non-conference game against 2B school Davenport. With the score tied at halftime, the Tigers came out and posted a five-point lead by the end of the third quarter. Davenport kept the game close, but the Tigers prevailed.

Laela Hardung and Neilsen tied to lead the team in rebounds with four each. Hayden Schuh led the team in steals with three.

As the Harrington girls work to build up their athletic programs, the road is not an easy one for them. After scoring six points in the first quarter, the Panthers were shut out during the final three quarters. With the end of the junior-high girls season, Odessa was able to bring up two eighth-graders to play on the varsity team, Ashley Zagelow and Alexis Eden.

Neilsen was high scorer with 17 points. Freshman Lily Starkel added another 12 points and Hayden Schuh scored 10. Hardung led the rebounding with five, and Zagelow led in steals with five.

The Dec. 17 game at Kettle Falls was cancelled due to the snowy weather and slick roads.
