Tiger boys are 4-4 in league play

RITZVILLE – A league win over Mary Walker and a league loss to Cusick, plus a loss to the larger Bronco co-op of LRSW was the story for the Tiger boys last week. Most games were able to be played in the local 1B league despite Covid still doing its best to sideline players from many different teams.

The Tiger boys fell to the 2B league's Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna team, 38-76. Jacob Scrupps scored 14 points to lead the Odessa team.

Scrupps also led the rebounding with eight. Additional stats were not posted.

On Jan. 28, the Odessa boys played the Chargers of Mary Walker High School in Springdale and won by a score of 63-53. Scoring in double figures were Daeton Deife with 22 points, Zach Claassen with 17 and Landen Brooks with 11.

Scrupps led the rebounding with nine, while Gage Starkel and Dakota Steward had seven each. Although the Chargers came out of the locker room after halftime with renewed vigor, they were unable to sustain it into the fourth quarter. The Tiger team has coalesced as the season has progressed, and despite the loss of Collin Martin, whose injury from football has once again taken him out of the lineup, the remaining players work well together as their recent success shows.

In Saturday's game at Cusick, the Tiger boys had a rough time of it, though, losing 34-70. The Cusick Panthers are having a very good year and are undefeated this season.

Odessa freshman Corbyn Neilsen led the scoring against Cusick with 11 points and Scrupps had nine.

Scrupps had seven rebounds to lead the defensive effort.
