Reardan must win two straight for regional berth
SPOKANE VALLEY-The No. 1 Colfax girls varsity team has been on a crash course for the District 7 2B title game all season, and an upset bid by upstart Reardan didn't give the Bulldogs much trouble deterring that course. The Bulldogs topped No. 5 Reardan 61-27 in a district semifinal Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Reardan came out swinging behind seven points from senior Ayden Krupke, taking a 7-5 lead and forcing a Colfax timeout. The Bulldogs took the lead 13-12 despite 10 points from Krupke, but Reardan hung around to trail just 19-12 after a period.
Colfax then blew the doors off its opponent in the second quarter, outscoring Reardan 14-4 to take a 33-16 halftime lead it wouldn't come close to relinquishing. The Bulldogs had extended its lead to 49-21 by the end of the third period.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by junior Jaisha Gibb, who had 13 points. Senior Asher Cai, sophomore Hailey Demler and freshman Brynn McGaughy added 12 points apiece for Colfax.
Krupke was the only Reardan player in double figures with 14 points.
Colfax advanced to play No. 2 Liberty in the district final after the Lancers thrashed Kettle Falls in the other semifinal game.
Both teams have clinched their spot at the state regional tournament. The heavyweight showdown is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
Reardan, meanwhile, will play in a loser-out game against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. The top three teams in the girls' tournament advance to regionals.
