Chamber hopes for more attendees

DAVENPORT—The Chamber of Commerce here held its first meeting in two years and first since the COVID-19 pandemic began early Tuesday morning, Feb. 22 in the Avista meeting room on Morgan Street. Six locals attended the meeting to discuss the Chamber’s future.

Todd Winzer of Wheatland Veterinary Clinic was attending his first Chamber meeting and inquired about the Chamber’s activities. Dick Wandling, who presided over the meeting with Kathy Hedgcock, discussed the various activities the Chamber typically sponsors.

These include the Pioneer Days float, annual Chamber of Commerce meeting and spring cleanup days. The Chamber used to sponsor Hometown Christmas, but that has since been taken on by the Women’s Association.

Those gathered agreed that another meeting needed to take place to further discuss the Chamber’s future, with hopes that more Davenport business owners would attend. That meeting was tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 17. Present members agreed to ask neighboring business owners about their interest in attending that day.
