Local levies pass by comfortable margins

ODESSA – The special levy elections held Feb. 8 were successful for all three levies run by entities in Odessa. Both school levies, one for capital projects and one for other school needs, passed with more than 70 percent “Yes” votes to just under 30 percent “No” votes. Overall voting for Adams, Grant and Lincoln county residents within the Odessa School District was approximately the same.

Lincoln Hospital District 1 (Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center) also had its levy pass with more than 67 percent of the vote.

Voter turnout was 1,812 out of the 3,881 registered voters in Lincoln County or 46.69 percent. The final ballot count was performed on Feb. 18, and the election has now been certified.

Other school districts in the area also ran successful levies, with Creston, Wilbur, Harrington and Wilson Creek voters saying yes by comfortable margins. The Grand Coulee School District was the only exception. Both of its levies were narrowly defeated. The Grand Coulee district includes residents of four different counties, Douglas, Grant, Lincoln and Okanogan.
