Reardan police investigate reported immoral messages to local girl

Communication reportedly coming from 30-year-old man in Missouri

REARDAN—A 30-year-old Missouri man tried to communicate with a 12-year-old female student here for immoral purposes, according to a report received by the local police department and school staff Thursday, Feb. 17.

School security officer and Internet Technology head Brian Scott intercepted the communications between the two while monitoring security safety measures he installed within the school’s cyber communications and internet monitoring of school-issued Google Chromebooks, according to a release from the police department.

Scott contacted the girls’ family and referred them to Spokane County Crime Check, since the student reportedly lives in Spokane County, and contacted the Reardan Police Department himself.

The report with evidence collected from the social media platform was sent to St. Louis County, Missouri’s Sheriff’s Office, where cybersex crime detectives have launched an active investigation, local police shared.

“A detective from the Cyber Sex Crimes division informed Reardan Police they are taking the incident seriously and had located the location of the 30-year-old male subject and will be investigating not only our complaint but insuring no other children in their jurisdiction or abroad are being victimized,” Reardan Police’s release stated.

Scott also informed the Reardan Police that the students’ parents are engaged in their child’s activities on social media and have been pivotal in assisting with the investigation.
