Preston Neufeld named WIAA Athlete of the Week

REARDAN – 106-pounder Preston Neufeld, who capped off his freshman wrestling season with a second-place finish at the state Mat Classic in Tacoma over the weekend, was already raking in the awards prior to his state success after being named one of the WIAA’s 12 Athletes of the Week for Week 22.

Neufeld lettered last year as an eighth-grader, quickly making varsity as a freshman and won the 1B/2B District 7/9 106-pound title, while placing in seven other tournaments with one gold, one bronze and five silver medals.

He finished the semester with a 4.0 GPA and helps coach the Reardan Renegades, the local youth wrestling team.

“This year, Neufeld has stepped up to fill leadership roles in the practice room,” the WIAA submission read. “His drive, hard work and love for the sport has paid off thus far.”
