Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
At home in Odessa on Feb. 16, the Tiger girls had one last chance to place in the district tournament. By defeating Almira-Coulee-Hartline, they were able to move on to play for third and fourth place in Saturday's game at Jenkins High School in Chewelah.
The game started off well for the Tigers, as they built a comfortable lead by halftime. But the second half of the game saw an amazing comeback by the Warriors as they scored 38 points to Odessa's 22. It was not quite enough, however, and the final buzzer left the Tigers with a one-point lead.
Ashlyn Neilsen led the scoring with 18, and Kaytlyn Shafer put up another nine points. Shafer also led the rebounding with seven, although three other players backed her up with six each. She was also named Odessa's player of the game.

This win sent the Tigers into the district matchup for third or fourth place in Chewelah on Saturday, Feb. 19, where they faced a fired up and hot-shooting Cusick team. The first quarter was a disaster for the Tigers as the Panthers sank three-pointers at will from all over their end of the court, while the Tigers had great difficulty finding the basket. Being down by 20 points in the first quarter makes a comeback that much harder. The Tigers did their best to fight their way back, outscoring Cusick in the next two quarters, but the deficit was too great.
Cusick 25 12 11 9 57
Odessa 5 15 17 8 45
Hayden Schuh was the workhorse for Odessa in this contest, scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Ashlyn Neilsen scored 16 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
It was a heartbreaker for the Tigers, as a win would have sent them on to regional play leading to the state tournament. Instead the Panthers move on, and it will be interesting to see how they do in post-season play.
