Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
LINCOLN COUNTY-Most local high school baseball and softball teams got their seasons going this week. Odessa baseball began with a visit from Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Saturday, while Reardan baseball and softball went to Chewelah for a doubleheader with Jenkins. Davenport baseball, meanwhile, also played LRS to open its season.
Odessa baseball loses two in opener
In Saturday's opening double-header against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna, the Tigers started game one with a bang, starting off with a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Unfortunately for OHS, the LRS Broncos got going, and the game ended with a 17-11 score favoring the Broncos. Game two was very similar, although Odessa bats went much quieter resulting in a 14-4 score for LRS.
Saturday's game was delayed by rain for about an hour but finally got started with only a few on and off sprinkles in the early afternoon. By the time game two got underway, the sun was coming out, and it was turning into a much warmer, beautiful day. The Tiger team did well for such a young team. Only two seniors and one junior join the remaining sophs and freshmen. One player from Wilson Creek, Ben Reitz, also joined the team, as well as one Odessa eighth-grader, Miller Stout.
Reardan softball wins a pair over Cougars
The Reardan girls got a win in a contest that looked more like a football game than a softball matchup and also came out victorious in the second part of a doubleheader with the Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars Tuesday, March 22.
Reardan won the first game 21-20 behind four hits, three doubles, six RBI's and a home run from senior Alyssa Sosky. The visitors fell behind 9-4 after the first inning, but scored at least once in each following inning and gained five runs in the top of the seventh inning to lead 21-12. The Cougars put a scare in with eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Reardan held on for its first victory.
Reardan then picked up a 9-5 win in the second game. Sosky had three runs and a double for Reardan.
Davenport baseball falls at LRS
The Davenport baseball team got off to an 0-2 start with a pair of losses in Ritzville Tuesday. LRS held on for a 2-1 victory in the first game before a more offensive 13-9 result in the second game.
Davenport softball doesn't play until Tuesday, March 29 against Tekoa-Rosalia.
Reardan baseball starts 0-3
The Reardan baseball team started its season with three consecutive losses. It began with a 7-4 loss at Medical Lake Thursday, March 17 and a pair of losses to Jenkins Tuesday, March 22. The team is back in action at Liberty (Spangle) Saturday.
