Garbage rates increasing 3%

DAVENPORT—Garbage and refuse pickup rates for Sunshine Disposal and Recycling are going up 3% effective April 1 after council approved Sunshine’s request at its March 23 meeting.

The city has contracted with Sunshine for garbage disposal services within city limits since April 2014.

The rate increase comes for the second time in 15 months after council agreed to extend the contract that was due for extension March 31. It’s the largest rate increase amongst the last three increases.

Rates increased 2% at the beginning of 2021 and 2.88% at the beginning of 2019. No increase occurred during 2020....
