Carstens may be moved to secondary principal as district considers Prewitt's replacement
DAVENPORT—The school district is planning to broaden its search for a new principal by opening the door for a new elementary school principal and moving current principal Noelle Carstens to the middle/high school, the school board learned at its regular meeting Monday, March 28.
Current high school principal and soon-to-be superintendent Chad Prewitt, presiding over Monday’s meeting in Jim Kowalkowski’s absence, said the move doesn’t guarantee Carstens will be moved to the secondary school. He said he wants the position to be opened by Friday, April 1.
“We hope to find more candidates to develop a deeper pool for either TK-5 or 6-12 (grades),” Prewitt said. “That doesn’t guarantee we would move Noelle (Carstens) to secondary…that would be depending on applications.”
Carstens previously told the board in February she wanted to remain elementary principal, which is now up in the air depending on principal candidates.
District administration hopes to bring a hiring recommendation to the board by the April 25 regular meeting, with site visits and interviews the week of April 11-18.
The new principal will work under Prewitt, who is replacing the retiring Kowalkowski in July.
The school board approved the purchase of a new school bus not to exceed $150,000 and the hires of Justin Young as middle school head track and field coach and Stephanie Thorson as assistant middle school softball coach.
