Davenport Lions Club to host Egg Hunt, Breakfast
City Park in Davenport will be filled with kids looking to get their fix of Easter Eggs Saturday at 9 a.m.
The Lions Club will lay out 500 to 600 eggs around the park for children aged birth through fifth grade to scamper after in stampede-like fashion when the clock strikes 9.
"If you want to see it, you're going to want to get there about 10 minutes early," Lions Club member Tim Hosking said. "This thing is over in about 35 seconds."
The eggs were stuffed with goodies by Davenport High School FBLA.
Matt Wagner is chairing the committee overseeing the Easter Egg Hunt, which will also include a canned food drive to benefit the local Care and Share.
Hungry locals can enjoy breakfast across the street at Memorial Hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. It's an all-you-can-eat affair chaired by Patrick Katz. The menu consists of pancakes, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee. A breakfast costs $7.50 per person.
Reardan Lions Club expects thousands of eggs at local hunt
East County parents wanting to give their kids multiple opportunities to grab some Easter Eggs can head to City Park in Reardan after the hunt in Davenport. The local Lions Club is hosting Reardan's version of an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m.
"(The) whistle blows at 10, and it is over almost by 10:10," organizer Dale Swant said. "The kids love it and run all over collecting filled plastic eggs."
City Park will be sectioned by age for the hunt. Each child will receive a stuffed animal for their hunting efforts.
Swant said the Lions Club lays out thousands of eggs in the park for the event.
Sprague hunt has more than 1,200 eggs
The Easter bunny and egg hunters are expected to turn out Saturday, April 16, to Sprague City Park.
The Sprague Chamber of Commerce event is set for 10 a.m. at Sprague School, 614 W. Fifth St.
Sprague egg hunt "helper" Joy Wilken said the community is excited to see children back in the park for Easter. Shari Stowell is the other chairman.
This year, more than 1,200 eggs will be hidden on the school grounds.
Two years ago, the community provided Easter baskets for families due to the coronavirus-related mandates. Last year, turnout was small, with many unsure about attending due to continuing mandates.
Not so, this year.
"We have over 1,200 eggs ready to go," she said, noting there are candy, dyed and hard-boiled, money and prize eggs for children ages 0 through fifth-grade. "The Fire Department will blow the siren when it's time to go."
A guest appearance is also expected from the Easter bunny, she said, noting youth and adults can have a photo taken with him.
