Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT-It was an up-and-down week for local baseball and softball teams, which fought through the strangely cold elements to work in contests around the Inland Northwest this week.
Davenport baseball picked up a couple wins over Liberty (Spangle) before a setback against a strong Northwest Christian (Colbert) squad. Odessa baseball easily blazed by Republic, while Reardan baseball and Davenport softball weren't able to get wins in their combined six games.
Gorilla baseball goes 2-2 in week's action
A strong start from Davenport ace Denton Deal and an outpouring of offense helped the Gorillas to a sweep over the Lancers. Deal struck out 15 batters in 6 2/3 innings of work en route to a 3-1 win.
Davenport then held off the Lancers 11-10 in the second game.
A trip to Colbert wasn't as successful for Davenport, which had only nine players to field in two losses to the Crusaders 11-1 and 20-2.
The Gorillas will host two more games against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m.
Odessa baseball easily sweeps Republic
A top-10 ranked Tigers squad had no trouble in Ferry County Tuesday, picking up two wins over Republic 19-1 and 16-4.
Collin Martin threw a no-hitter and got four hits in the first game.
Dakota Seward scored four times in the second time to aid Odessa.
The Tigers are back in action this Saturday against Curlew at 2 p.m.
Davenport softball falls in quartet
A youthful Gorillas fastpitch team is still searching for its first win through six contests. Davenport fell to Liberty twice last Saturday 19-0 and 18-2, then dropped at NWC 21-5 and 29-5.
The Gorillas' next chance at victory is against LRS Friday at 2 p.m.
Reardan baseball drops two at Medical Lake
Reardan baseball is also looking to get back on track this week after two losses to the Medical Lake Cardinals last Wednesday, April 6 by counts of 5-2 and 7-3.
The team will have a challenging road to victory at NWC Saturday before a visit from the rival Gorillas next Tuesday.
