School continues search for new principal

Candidate interview process expected next Wednesday

DAVENPORT—The search for a new principal remains ongoing, but a candidate may be selected by next Wednesday, according to discussion at the school board’s regular meeting Monday, April 25.

Superintendent Jim Kowalkowski’s looming retirement has created a ripple effect down to a principal opening after current high school principal Chad Prewitt was named Kowalkowski’s successor.

The district may move current elementary principal Noelle Carstens to middle/high school principal, or hire a secondary school principal depending on its candidate pool, Prewitt said.

Carstens, who previously told the board she would prefer to stay elementary principal at the board’s regular meeting in February, said Monday that she is open to either position.

But the current district advertising lists the opening as an elementary position. Kowalkowski said roughly a dozen candidates have applied for the opening, and district staff hope to have four candidates participate in a day-long interview process next Wednesday, May 4.

The process would include a school tour, community tour, faculty meeting, lunch with students, dinner with administration, a community meet and greet in the auditorium and candidate interviews.

The district is also searching for Tim Zeiler’s replacement as athletic director and formed an interview team of Matt Henry, Janie Schreck, Dana Telecky, Tyson Linstrum, Monty Soliday, Prewitt and Carstens to select that candidate. An interview was expected to occur Wednesday, April 27.
