In-person gunsmithing still offered
DAVENPORT-The local Sporting Goods store will be transitioning to a mostly-online model by the end of the month, store ownership announced on the business Facebook page last week.
The store will be closing its in-person business and will sell firearms online, the post said.
"We have to adapt, so we're adapting," co-owner Kevin Hupp told The Record-Times this week.
Hupp bought the store, located at 712 Morgan Street, with Johnathan Chapman seven years ago.
He said in-person sales had dramatically decreased on storefront product, which began last year with supply chain issues.
"We aren't selling anything in the store," Hupp said. "It's our online sales that kept us going."
"We would often be out of merchandise because the supply was so slammed," he added. "I think people got tired of being told 'no.'"
The storefront will remain open for gunsmithing services, which can be scheduled by appointment. Hupp and Chapman plan to keep the Morgan Street location and potentially rent the space to a new owner in the future.
"We aren't closing the business; we're just listening to our customers, and most of the business is online," Hupp said.
