Wilbur-Creston to open state championship against Colton

YAKIMA – The Wilbur-Creston Wildcats open the state 1B girls fastpitch softball tournament at noon Friday, May 27.

The No. 7-ranked girls will face the No. 2-ranked Colton Wildcats on Field 2 of the state-opener at Gateway Park.

It'll be a rematch of the May 16 matchup in the 1B District 6/7/9 tournament. Colton won that game, 9-7.

The winner will advance to a play the winner of the Quilcene vs. Inchelium game at 4 p.m. on Field 4.

The loser will drop to a loser-out battle against the loser of the Quilcene-Inchelium game at 4 p.m. on Field 2.

To reach the state tournament, Wilbur-Creston ended the reign of two time defending state champion Almira-Coulee/Hartline, 8-4, in the 1B district tournament at Franklin Park in Spokane of Friday, May 20.

That loss ended the season for the Warriors from western Lincoln County.

In their next game, the Wildcats lost, 9-5, to No. 6-ranked DeSales on Friday, May 20.

The Wildcats followed up that loss with a Saturday, May 21, victory over perennial powerhouse, the No. 7 ranked Curlew Cougars, in the pouring rain.
