DEER PARK – Four Odessa golfers did well at the 1B/2B state golf meet last week.
Tiger senior Daeton Deife finished in 18th place tied with his first cousin Kallen Maioho of Wilbur-Creston-Keller, each of them scoring 173 over the two-day tournament. Fellow Odessa senior Landen Brooks was not far behind, finishing in 21st place tied with Colton Seymour of Cusick at 175.
In team scoring, the Tiger boys took sixth place with a score of 42.
Maddox Schumacher of Davenport High (and formerly of Odessa) finished in 15th place tied with Braeden Salme of Adna High School with a score of 169.
Grayson Danekas also competed for the Gorillas and shot a 95 on the first day, barely missing the cut.
For the girls’ team, sophomore Melloney Deife, younger sibling of Daeton Deife, came in at 12th place with a two-day score of 203, while teammate Laela Hardung, a junior, was 14th with a score of 206.
Abby Breithaupt of Davenport shot a 111 on the first day of state, which wasn’t a high enough mark to advance to the second day but was her personal best round.
Only three 1B/2B schools posted team scores, and consistent play by both Tiger girls put them into the second-place team slot. Warden High took the top spot and Orcas Island High was third.
