DAVENPORT – Inflation has made it challenging for families to make ends meet, but there are several food banks in Lincoln County for families in need.
Lorna Farris, who operates the Odessa Food Bank, said they are doing well.
She said community donations have been great.
Farris said they have plenty of food and anyone is welcome.
The food bank serves about 20 families a month.
Farris said within the last 4-6 months she has noticed a few new faces to the area.
The Odessa Food Bank is open every third Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and again at 5 p.m.
The food bank is located at 111 East First Avenue.
Cindy Warner, who operates Care and Share in Davenport, said the food bank is prevailing.
She said they are going through more food than usual over the last couple of months.
At the time of this article, Warner said they had just received a $400 donation from a local family.
Warner said the warehouse where their food comes from has been in low supply.
She said the community has been donating and that has been going well.
Warner said Care and Share does not turn away any of those in need.
Those who come to the food bank will need to fill out a form to register and to show proof of residency.
Care and Share is open 10 a.m- 4 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
It's closed on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
Warner said she is there most days if anyone needs assistance between operating hours.
She also stated they needed more volunteers to help keep up.
Care and Share is located on the south side of the 300 block of Morgan Street, adjacent to Edna's Drive-In.
Pastor Cade Clarke, who runs the Harrington food bank, said they are keeping up with the demands within the community and have done so for the last 2.5 years.
He said the Moses Lake warehouse where they receive food from was low on resources.
Clarke said between Oct.- Nov. 2019 they saw 45-50 families that were in need.
Currently they are seeing about 20 families a week, but the numbers have gone up within the last two months.
The Harrington food bank goes through 85 pounds of food a week.
Clarke said about 183-200 individuals are served during the month.
He said he has an emergency call for food about once a week.
Harrington Food Bank is open from 11 a.m. to noon every Saturday of the month.
The food bank's location is at the Church of Nazarene at 204 North 3rd Street.
