HARRINGTON-Mayor Jess Silhan reported that Harrington was offered a loan of $366,750 from the Department of Ecology at council’s July 13 meeting.
The loan would be a safety net for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Silhan stated that this loan will be used as a line of credit and will not be accessed unless necessary.
He said the money stays with the Department of Ecology unless the city needs assistance.
The Council unanimously voted to accept the loan.
Updates to the junk vehicle ordinance were discussed by the council.
The council agreed to get a legal review of the Junk Vehicle Ordinance.
Silhan reported that there was a beehive in the park and half the hive had dispersed.
Councilmember David Buddrius said if the hive was not disturbed it would not be an issue.
Buddrius discussed online banking options for residents to pay utilities.
He said recently there have been more inquiries about paying online and asked if the council would be open to try it.
Councilmember Stephen Hardy stressed that they did not change rates but there would be a convenience fee.
The council agreed to gauge the public need for an online banking system.
Hardy reported that weeds had raised concerns with citizens.
The library board is still looking for members, Hardy said.
