Sosky signs with Yakima Valley

Reardan's ace softball pitcher to play outfield for YVC Yaks

YAKIMA-The Reardan softball team's ace pitcher of the last two years is most comfortable in the outfield. And that's what Alyssa Sosky will be playing for the Yakima Valley College Yaks this school year after signing Wednesday, July 27.

Sosky chose the school due to its relative proximity to home, a local connection with a good friend and a budding relationship that began growing with Yaks head coach Renae Koppenhafer last summer.

"She's one of those people that's very active and responds to texts very quickly," Sosky said. "I was able to get my questions answered really easily."

Koppenhafer spotted Sosky during tournaments in the Tri-Cities, Pasco and Yakima in the last year.

"I talked to her at a few of those," Sosky said. "This year we started talking more and more."

Yakima Valley wasn't Sosky's only option, as the Reardan local had choices to attend Everett Community College, Northwest University, Blue Mountain Community College, Shoreline Community College, Highline College, Grays Harbor College and Spokane Falls Community College.

Sosky's natural position is outfield, which is what she'll play in Yakima. She was Reardan's pitcher as an upperclassman due to team necessity.

She plans to move in early September and begin preparing for fall ball, as the team has several games lined up.

Sosky hopes to move on to play for a four-year university after playing in Yakima for two years. She plans to major in nursing.
