Looking at primary voting statistics by precinct
DAVENPORT—Over half of eligible Lincoln County voters turned out for the Aug. 2 primary election and chose six candidates to send to the November general election.
Gabe Gants and Brian Telford are running for Sheriff, Emily Lybbert Hansen and Brad Sweet are running for Treasurer and Rob Coffman and Jason Debord are running for County Commissioner.
Gants gathered over 50% of the votes in a five-man primary race for Sheriff with 2,259, while Telford had 990 votes.
Almost every municipality favored Gants. Davenport gave him 364 votes to Telford’s 238 votes. Third-place Andy Manke was far behind with 56 votes.
Harrington had 75 votes for Gants, 48 for Manke and 41 for Telford.
Odessa gave 130 votes to Gants, 84 to Telford and 36 to Manke.
Wilbur was a dominant victory for Gants, who gathered 214 votes to Telford’s 72 and Manke’s 33.
Sprague was much closer, with Gants getting 42 votes, Manke getting 35 votes and Telford getting 34 votes.
Creston was a close race, with Gants getting 35 votes to Telford’s 33. Gants won Almira with 47 votes to Telford’s 23.
Reardan was the lone municipality to prefer Manke, who is the police chief there. Manke had 111 votes, while Gants had 64.
The Riverview precinct, which includes Deer Meadows, gave 90 votes to Gants, 71 to Manke and 48 to Jeff Barden.
Edwall had 38 votes for Gants and 14 for Manke.
Egypt had 93 votes for Gants, 30 for Telford and 10 for Manke.
Gants and Telford tied in West Larene with 19 votes apiece.
The interim Sheriff had convincing victories in Waukon, rural Sprague, Canby, rural Almira, Downs, Earl, Enos, Irby, Keller, East Larene, Mondovi, rural Odessa, Peach, Sherman, rural Wilbur and Wilson Creek.
Wheatland was almost a tie between Gants and Telford, with the prior getting 54 votes to Telford’s 53.
Hawk Creek largely preferred Gants, who had 87 votes to Telford’s 29.
Manke won more precincts than Telford, who only finished first in the small precinct of Bluestem, but Telford outpaced him in second place behind Gants in most precincts.
The Reardan chief garnered the most votes in his home precinct of Seven Bays and won the Reardan area precincts of Spring Creek, Long Lake and north and south rural Reardan. He also had a slight edge over Gants and Telford in Mohler and Lamona.
Coffman had 991 votes to Debord’s 715 in the Commissioner race, which was only open to District 3 voters in the primary.
All county voters will see that race on their ballots in the general election.
Coffman had more votes in Wilbur and Almira, while Debord was favored in Creston. Outside municipalities, Coffman was preferred in rural Almira, Egypt, Govan, Grand Coulee, Hawk Creek, Keller, Lakeview, Seven Bays, Sherman and rural Wilbur.
Debord was preferred in rural Creston, Peach and Riverview.
Hansen had a dominating performance in the Treasurer’s race, gathering 2,846 votes to Sweet’s 977 and Pete Brickner’s 402. Hansen won every precinct except the tiny area of Downs, where voters slightly favored Sweet.
