Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT-It took nine months, but the school board finally has its District 1 seat filled. Jaymie Bennett applied for the position and was sworn in by superintendent Chad Prewitt following a light interview period at the school board's regular meeting Monday, Sept. 19.
Bennett, a graduate of Harrington High in 2006, has two young children in the district and works in the Lincoln County Clerk's Office, having recently transferred there from the Treasurer's Office.
She is currently the treasurer for the executive board of Growing Gorillas preschool, where her younger son is currently enrolled. Her oldest son is a kindergartner in the district this year.
"I like to be involved in what my kids are," Bennett told the board Monday. "I want to serve my community and make a good school experience for my kids."
She sparked interest in the vacant board position after the district's recent redistricting process moved her Main Street address into District 1, which had been vacant since Heather Panke ended her stint on the board at the end of 2021.
Bennett said she hopes to form a long-lasting relationship with the board that is built on respect.
The vacant term Bennett fills runs through 2023, when she'd have to run for re-election. She said she wants to see how this next year goes, but is open to staying on the school board throughout her children's grade school years.
Bennett joins the now-filled school board of chair Deanna Fitzpatrick, vice chair Garrett Husky, Tami Odenrider and Janie Schreck.
