Well overflows stopped in Harrington

HARRINGTON- Mayor Jess Silhan said there were no artesian wells flowing in the streets or parking streets at the City Council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

“That’s been months,” Silhan said. “I can’t tell you there’s no wet spots, but there’s no active flowing.”

This has been a concern for the last eight months.

The leak had been stopped for the couple weeks leading up to the meeting.

A new part-time season public worker Brandon Shaw was hired.

Shaw lives near Hawk Creek and has been hired for 30 hours a week.

“So far, he seems to be a big help,” Silhan said.

But problems with water in the city aren’t completely rectified. The hotel does have a water leak that is being worked on.

“That was supposed to be a 20 minute job to dig up a little pipe,” he said. “And in true Harrington fashion it’s been 50 feet or more of ditching.”

The Council is currently looking for the cause of the leak. The city has stopped water flow through the pipes to deter anymore leaks.

There has been no comment from the railroad regarding digging up the pipe that was the cause of the main water leak.

“We have now submitted the proper credentials to BNSF,” Silhan reported. “They thought it could be weeks from their point of view, possibly months.”

Council is currently trying to figure out a solution to repair the pipe permanently.

TD&H is paying for the drilling to help with the cost of the repair.
