Passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2022 at her home. Born June 29, 1940 in Odessa, Wash. to Clarence and Carolyn Hemmerling. She was baptized into the Christian Faith that same year. She was confirmed in the United Congregational Church and later was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa. She graduated as salutatorian of the Odessa High School in 1958. She attended Washington State University where she was a member of SPURS. Sophomore Women’s Service Honorary and secretary of her living group, Regents Hill. Also attended Kinmen Business University and became a certified medical transcriptionist after completing the course at Big Bend Community college in Moses Lake.
She married Jerry Walker in 1960 and lived in Odessa until 1999 when they retired and moved to Spokane Valley. They were married for 59 years and rarely apart until he passed a few years ago. She was a member of Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene. Her greatest love was her Savior, Jesus Christ and her family.
She was a member of the Painted Hills Women’s Golf League and the Greens’ Book Club. Kathy was an avid reader all of her life and was a member of Odessa Readers’ Club and a twenty-year member of the Odessa Library Board. She enjoyed playing the piano, baking, dancing and entertaining friends. She worked first as a medical assistant at the Odessa Clinic and later as a medical transcriptionist.
She is survived by her son Joel (Kim) Walker of Black Diamond, Wash. Her son Ryan Walker of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Clarissa Walker, and Kathy’s six grandchildren Kendall, Savanna, Jake, Ben, Anyssa and Cheyenne. Her two sisters and their husbands are Twila (Barry) Heimbigner of Snoqualmie, Wash. and Pam (Kirk) Bacon of Snoqualmie, Wash. Two nephews Kyle Bacon and Conrad and Brandi Bacon. Also, two nieces Anne (Brian) Kertson of Snoqualmie, Wash. and Sarah Thomas of Richmond, Va. Her love for all of them was unceasing and unconditional. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 2019. Memorials may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Spokane, Wash.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Oct. 8, 2022 at 4:00 PM at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene.
