Classes cancelled after potential threat from parent
REARDAN--A possible threat from an angry parent in Spokane County forced the school district here to evacuate and send home students late Thursday morning Oct. 6.
According to the local police department, police chief Andy Manke was notified by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office that a parent of three children attending school here that resides in Spokane County was upset with a no-contact/protection order served against him preventing him from having contact with those children.
Possibly threatening statements were made to the school, but those exact threats are still under investigation with possible harassment charges pending depending on the severity of those threats, Manke said.
The school was evacuated and students were bussed to the Inland Northwest Rail Museum west of town, where parents were instructed to pick their children up. The potential threat warranted a police response from the Reardan Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol.
All after-school activities, practices, clubs and games were cancelled Thursday.
The three children in question were taken out of Reardan by their mother and won't be coming back here, nullifying the potentially threatening parent's ambitions in the local school, Manke said. The suspect has been identified, but has yet to be located.
"He doesn't have any interest in Reardan School anymore," Manke said.
