HARRINGTON–Mayor Jess Silhan said the cemetery needs a new sprinkler system and had trees that needed to come down during a workshop held by council on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
Silhan said that information regarding plots in the cemetery, where burials are located, and other documentation needs to be updated.
"All the documentation has gotten to the point; it's untenable," he said.
He discussed how the process could be complex because those with extensive knowledge of the cemetery are hard to find.
Stan Roth, a long-time resident of the area, researched how to store data better and talked about making the map easier to read and updating the markers.
Council agreed that an updated map is needed and that making it more accessible to the public would be beneficial.
Due to a lack of resources, more funding is needed to complete these projects.
There were no updates on the water leak, but the council said they communicated with BNSF.
The pipe has been covered with dirt and hay to insulate it before the year's first freeze.
"There is no longer an exposed piece of PVC pipe," Silhan said. "Things are not going as fast as I wanted, but they are moving forward."
Silhan said they are discussing a 24-inch steel canister with a new 12-inch PVC waterline and the pipe will be ¾ quarters of an inch thick with steel fittings.
The project could take weeks to complete.
