Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
ODESSA- United States Rep. for Washington's 5th Congressional District Cathy McMorris Rodgers held her meet and greet at Old Town Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 4. She was previously at the county courthouse from 11 a.m. to noon meeting with voters and county commissioners.
She was able to use the Old Town Hall after paying a fee after the Town Council denied the fee to be waived.
There was a small gathering for her hour long-visit.
McMorris Rodgers expressed that voting is critical and how the U.S. is too dependent on other countries for energy sources.
She briefly talked about her Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act and said that the U.S. should be able to sustain its own energy sources.
"We are too dependent on other countries for energy sources," McMorris Rodgers said. "We can lower energy prices by investing in American energy and reducing dependence on foreign oil."
She also touched on how essential Agriculture is to rural communities.
"Agriculture has been a staple in this country," McMorris Rodgers said. "I grew up in a farming family in Eastern Washington."
McMorris Rodgers touched on how crucial it is to protect current water sources and enhance them as needed.
"Water is being taken from farmland to assist California," McMorris Rodgers said. "California has not built a water infrastructure."
McMorris Rodgers is an advocate for the Columbia and Snake River Dams.
"These dams are responsible for 70% of Washington State's energy," she said. "We cannot let anything happen to them."
McMorris Rodgers is seeking another Congressional term in a race against Democrat Natasha Hill in the general election, which is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
