Miles "Mick" Tareski

Apr. 7, 1962 – Aug. 7, 2022

Mick passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2022. Mick was born April 7, 1962 in Spokane, Wash. to David and Donna Tareski. He grew up in Cheney where he worked on the family farm but more notably in his dad's repair shop and wrecking yard (Dave's Auto) where he learned his many amazing skills of working on cars, trucks and equipment. Even though there was always work to do, he and his brothers and sisters enjoyed each other and could always find time to do fun and crazy things at their ranch.

He attended and graduated from Cheney Schools where he and his brothers were highly regarded for their wrestling achievements. He attended North Dakota State School of Science where he received his education in Auto Mechanics. He returned home to Cheney and worked for Edwards Engine Remanufacturing before finding his career choice in 1983 of "being his own boss" in Davenport, where he bought a rundown gas station. He fixed up the place, sold gas, repaired cars, and started a 24 hour towing service (Micks Auto). After years of hard work, he was able to build a new shop and hire employees. This became a hangout spot for many new friends in building friendships that carried on throughout many years.

He was asked to be the wrestling coach in Davenport where the program had been dropped. He agreed and was able to get the program started again. His brothers came and helped and supported him as they all loved the sport. The program is still going.

With his love for cars and the comradery of his friends, they started competing in demolition derbies. They started a team that attended many races and actually hosted several races which raised money and brought attendance to the local fair. At one time, they had enough cars that took a car hauler to get them to the races....what fun that was! (Black Magic Racing Team) He enjoyed the area as it provided many fun and sometimes hilarious hunting adventures.

He was a volunteer firefighter, volunteered to run chains at the high school football games, and donated his time and energy to the Booster Club. He rarely took a break, but it didn't matter because working was all he knew. He sold his business in 2016 and tried to take it easy. It wasn't long before he was working on stuff again...the neighbor's lawn mower, friends' cars, or just anything that needed tweaking. He found a new job donating his time to Care and Share where he very much enjoyed helping, hauling, sorting and displaying items for sale at the Thrift store. He enjoyed garage sales and could always find something rare and unique. He was talented and had a creative eye and enjoyed creating eclectic displays both inside and outside of his house. Mick had a large presence in his community and will be missed.

Mick is survived by his mother, Donna Tareski, brothers and sisters Laurie (Jimmy) Shenefelt, Mike (Tammy) Tareski, Matt Tareski, Marc Tareski, Monte (Kelly) Tareski, and Angela (Steve) Stimson; his favorite (and only) son, Zeke Tareski and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, David Tareski.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Trinity Bible Fellowship Church at 1101 1st Street in Davenport.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mick's honor to Care and Share would serve beneficial and be appreciated by the family.
