REARDAN–After winning at the state level three Reardan students will take their winning presentation to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they will compete at the National FFA Convention, Oct. 26-29.
The Agriculture Issues Forum is a competition in which teams from each state present information on agricultural issues relevant to their communities. Reardan's team, consisting of Andrew Schulz, Ashley Landt and Tyler Clouse, will deliver their 13-minute presentation titled, "Will Washington mandate themselves out of the workforce?"
The team's presentation is themed around boxing. Clouse and Schultz don boxing gloves and "faceoff," each arguing one side of several of Washington's mandates, while Landt moderates as "referee." The team will debate mandates relating to vaccines, electric vehicles, the Long-Term Care Act and agricultural employees overtime pay.
To perfect their presentation, Landt estimated her team "put in hundreds of hours of work."
FFA advisor Rick Perleberg said his team "chose a contentious topic," but they will "represent the truth on both sides of the argument."
He lauded his team for their polished performance at the state convention in May, which allowed them to proceed to nationals. He believes his team has the potential to be "one of the top 16 teams in the nation."
The opportunity to compete at the national level is "a once in a lifetime experience," Perleberg said.
"It is the culmination of our students' dedication to Reardan's FFA program," he said.
The team left for Indianapolis Oct. 23.
